The U.S. Coast Guard stated it was trying to find 39 individuals after the boat that was carrying them from the Bahamas capsized off the Atlantic coast of Florida on Saturday evening.
Rescuers realized of the accident on Tuesday morning, when a boater, who was described as a “good Samaritan,” discovered a person clinging to the capsized vessel, the Coast Guard stated.

A picture posted by the Coast Guard on Twitter confirmed the person straddling the boat’s hull.
The boat capsized about 45 miles east of the Fort Pierce Inlet, the Coast Guard stated. It was not instantly clear on Tuesday what sort of boat it was. Nobody aboard was carrying a life jacket, the Coast Guard stated.
“This can be a suspected human smuggling enterprise,” the Coast Guard stated on Twitter.
