Trump Appointing Top GOP Governor To Cabinet

This was surprising to hear.

President Donald Trump is signaling a major potential shake-up inside his administration—and it could involve one of the biggest names in Republican politics.

Trump Opens Door For DeSantis Cabinet Role

In a Friday exchange with reporters, Trump revealed he would strongly consider appointing Ron DeSantis to a cabinet position in the near future.

“Well, I like him a lot,” Trump said when asked about the Florida governor’s future.

The comment is already fueling speculation across Washington and among conservative voters: could DeSantis soon take on a powerful role in Trump’s administration?

From Rivals To Allies

The potential move marks a dramatic turnaround from the 2024 Republican primary, when DeSantis challenged Trump for the nomination. After finishing behind Trump early in the race, DeSantis ultimately dropped out and endorsed him.

Since then, the two Florida Republicans have built a closer working relationship—especially on key conservative priorities that resonate strongly with voters.

A Strong Focus On Immigration And Elections

Both Trump and DeSantis have aligned on cracking down on illegal immigration, one of the most important issues for Republican voters heading into 2026.

At the same time, DeSantis has taken bold action in Florida by advancing new congressional maps that could give Republicans up to four additional House seats. That effort could play a major role in helping the GOP maintain control of Congress during the midterms.

Cabinet Shakeups Already Underway

Trump has not been shy about making changes to his cabinet. In recent months, several high-profile officials have been replaced, leaving key positions still open.

That creates an opportunity for a figure like DeSantis—someone with executive experience and strong support among conservatives—to step into a major leadership role.

What Happens Next?

DeSantis is currently serving his second term as Florida governor, which is set to end in January 2027. With his time in Tallahassee limited, attention is quickly turning to what comes next.

If Trump follows through, bringing DeSantis into the cabinet would not only strengthen his administration—it could also reshape the future of the Republican Party.
