Trump Shreds GOP Senator For Betrayal

Wow! Trump didn’t hold back this time.

President Donald Trump sharply criticized Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) on Friday, accusing the longtime Republican of reversing course on one of Trump’s top nominees after losing his Senate primary to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump claimed Cornyn had no objections to a proposed compensation fund for Americans who say they were unfairly targeted by the federal government until after Trump endorsed Paxton in the Texas Republican primary.

According to Trump, the proposed fund was never intended to benefit him personally. Instead, he said it was created to help Americans whose lives, careers, and finances were harmed by what he described as political weaponization during the Biden administration.

“I gave up any payments for myself,” Trump wrote, referring to the FBI’s 2022 search of his Mar-a-Lago residence.

Trump also argued that many legal experts—including Cornyn, according to the president—previously criticized the investigation as an example of federal overreach.

The president said Americans who faced costly legal battles and government investigations deserve compensation if they were treated unfairly. He added that voters supported that position by returning him to the White House in the 2024 election.

Trump concluded his message by urging the Senate to confirm Todd Blanche without further delay.

“Todd Blanche, a good man, should be immediately approved as U.S. Attorney General,” Trump wrote.

Senate Confirmation Fight Continues

Trump’s remarks followed comments he made a day earlier indicating he would be willing to temporarily pull Blanche’s nomination if Cornyn and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) kept holding up the confirmation process while Blanche continued serving as acting attorney general.

The Senate Judiciary Committee postponed its scheduled vote on Blanche after Cornyn and Tillis requested written confirmation from the Department of Justice that a proposed $1.8 billion compensation fund tied to alleged government weaponization had been permanently abandoned.

Cornyn has said he is not prepared to support Blanche until the Justice Department provides formal written documentation confirming the proposal will not move forward. The senator has argued that verbal assurances alone are insufficient for such a significant commitment.

Justice Department officials have responded by saying they already supplied Cornyn’s staff with written materials addressing the issue and remain willing to continue discussions with lawmakers.

Trump-Cornyn Relationship Continues To Deteriorate

The latest dispute underscores the growing divide between Trump and Cornyn following the president’s endorsement of Ken Paxton in Texas’ Republican Senate primary. That endorsement ultimately helped bring an end to Cornyn’s long Senate career.

Blanche, who previously served as one of Trump’s personal defense attorneys, remains one of the president’s closest legal allies. Trump has repeatedly praised Blanche, calling him “a STAR” and predicting he could become “one of the greatest attorneys general of all time.”

The nomination fight has become another high-profile test of Trump’s influence within the Republican Party as his administration works to fill key leadership positions.

Political observers will now be watching closely to see whether Senate Republicans can reach an agreement that allows Blanche’s nomination to move forward or whether the standoff continues in the weeks ahead.
