Trump’s ICE Launching Major New Operation

Here’s what Trump’s ICE is planning next.

The Trump administration is preparing to launch a major new immigration enforcement operation after the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for officials to move forward with ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of Haitian nationals.

According to multiple federal sources cited by Fox News, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is expected to expand operations targeting Haitian nationals whose legal protections are set to expire. The enforcement effort could begin as early as this week, making it one of the administration’s most closely watched immigration initiatives in recent months.

Supreme Court Decision Opens the Door

The expected operation follows a significant Supreme Court ruling that allows the administration to proceed with ending TPS protections for more than 300,000 Haitians.

The Court’s certified judgment is expected to reach lower courts on Monday, removing one of the final legal barriers that had delayed implementation of the policy.

Last month, the Supreme Court also overturned lower-court decisions that had temporarily blocked the administration from ending TPS protections for both Haiti and Syria while litigation continued.

Why Temporary Protected Status Is Changing

Temporary Protected Status is a humanitarian program created by Congress that allows eligible nationals from countries experiencing armed conflict, natural disasters, or other extraordinary conditions to temporarily live and work legally in the United States.

Haiti first received TPS after the devastating 2010 earthquake that caused widespread destruction and displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

The Trump administration has argued that the program was always intended to be temporary and should not become a long-term immigration status. Administration officials say the policy change is part of a broader effort to restore the original purpose of federal immigration law and strengthen enforcement.

Ohio Expected to Be a Major Focus

Federal sources told Fox News that Ohio is expected to be one of the primary areas targeted during the upcoming operation.

Springfield, Ohio, which has experienced a significant increase in its Haitian population in recent years, is reportedly expected to receive increased attention from ICE. Sources familiar with the planning said agency leadership has already been briefed on operational plans.

Officials have not publicly released additional details regarding where or when enforcement actions may occur.

White House Calls Ruling a Major Victory

Following the Supreme Court’s decision, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson described the ruling as an important legal victory for the administration.

Jackson said the decision reinforces the administration’s position that Temporary Protected Status is, by definition, a temporary humanitarian program rather than a pathway to permanent legal residency. She added that the administration intends to continue implementing immigration policies it believes will restore integrity to the nation’s immigration system.

Department of Homeland Security General Counsel James Percival also welcomed the ruling, writing on X that the Court had once again upheld DHS’s legal authority. He argued that some TPS designations had evolved into long-term legal status despite Congress originally creating the program as temporary relief.

Immigration Policy Remains a Central Issue

The anticipated ICE operation comes as immigration continues to rank among the most important issues for many American voters.

Springfield became a national focal point during the 2024 presidential campaign after rapid growth in its Haitian community sparked widespread debate over immigration policy, border security, local resources, and community impacts.

Supporters of the administration argue that enforcing immigration laws and limiting long-term use of temporary programs helps restore confidence in the legal immigration system. Critics, however, warn that ending TPS could create uncertainty for individuals who have lived and worked in the United States for years.

As of publication, neither ICE nor the Department of Homeland Security had officially confirmed operational details. Fox News reported that both agencies were contacted for comment.

With the Supreme Court’s decision now taking effect, the coming days are expected to reveal how quickly the administration moves to implement its latest immigration enforcement strategy and what impact it could have on communities across the country.
