Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev requested a Russian-led army alliance for assist to quell mass protests.

Kazakhstan’s cities appeared to have returned to calm, after days of violent protests that had been triggered by excessive gas costs.

The difficulty has ignited individuals’s longstanding grievances in opposition to inequality, corruption, and lack of democracy within the former Soviet republic.

The federal government referred to as the protesters “terrorists” and requested a Russian-led army alliance to assist cease the unrest.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked Russia’s Vladimir Putin for sending 2,500 troopers from the regional Collective Safety Treaty Group (CSTO).
