Trump Declares Emergency Pause, DC Stunned

Here’s what happened.

President Donald Trump stunned Washington on Tuesday after revealing that his administration will temporarily pause “Project Freedom” in the Strait of Hormuz as negotiations with Iran appear to gain momentum.

The surprise announcement comes after weeks of rising tensions in the Middle East, major U.S. military operations, and growing fears about global oil supplies and international shipping routes.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed requests from Pakistan and several other nations, while also pointing to what he called “great progress” toward a possible final agreement with Iran.

Despite the temporary pause, Trump made clear that pressure on Iran is far from over.

According to the president, the blockade surrounding Iran will remain fully active while talks continue behind the scenes.

“Project Freedom,” launched by the Pentagon earlier this year, was designed to protect commercial and civilian ships attempting to move through the Strait of Hormuz after Iran disrupted one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.

The narrow waterway is considered one of the most important oil transit routes on the planet, and instability there has sent shockwaves through energy markets and raised concerns about gasoline prices for American families.

Before the pause was announced, U.S. officials said ship traffic through the region had already improved dramatically under the operation. At least 11 ships successfully crossed the Strait within the previous 24 hours — a major jump from earlier in the week when only two vessels made it through safely.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the mission during a White House press briefing, calling it a humanitarian effort that protected innocent civilians trapped in the Gulf during the conflict.

Rubio claimed that nearly 23,000 civilians from 87 countries had effectively been stranded because of Iran’s actions since fighting escalated earlier this year.

He also confirmed that “Operation Epic Fury,” the military phase of the conflict, has officially ended as the administration pivots toward diplomacy and regional stabilization.

While discussing negotiations with Iran, Rubio acknowledged that dealing with the Iranian regime has been extremely difficult because of its complicated leadership system and slow internal approval process.

Still, administration officials suggested mounting economic pressure and recent military setbacks may finally be forcing Tehran back to the negotiating table.

Throughout the conflict, President Trump has repeatedly insisted that Iran will never be allowed to possess enriched uranium capable of supporting a nuclear weapons program.

The administration is also demanding access to roughly 1,000 pounds of uranium believed to remain buried deep underground following last year’s American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

For many Trump supporters, the temporary pause represents a familiar strategy from the president: applying maximum pressure first, then using America’s leverage to pursue a deal from a position of strength.

With oil markets watching closely and tensions still simmering in the Middle East, the coming days could determine whether Trump’s gamble leads to a historic breakthrough — or another dangerous showdown in the region.
